Christian-ish | Week 6

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION

Opening Questions:

  1. In what ways might we be resisting or misunderstanding God’s methods of preparing us for future seasons through our present difficulties?
  2. What does it mean to change our ‘posture’ rather than our ‘position’ in response to difficult circumstances, and how might this impact our spiritual growth?

Key Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 7:1

Additional Scriptures:

Acts 17 24-26

Luke 12:4-7

Nahum 1:7

Matthew 6:9-13

2 Corinthians 12:9

Romans 8:28

Key Takeaways:

ASSIGNMENT ALIGNMENT

  1. Your ASSIGNMENT is not an ACCIDENT: Your current situation is not an accident but a divine assignment
  2. You don’t have to love the ASSIGNMENT to trust the ASSIGNER: Trust in God as the assigner, even when you don’t love the assignment
  3. Stops praying for a different POSITION, starts praying for a different POSTURE: Change your prayer focus from changing your position to changing your posture
  4. Aligns your MENTALITY with God’s METHODS: God often uses challenging situations to develop necessary character traits for future roles

Discussion Questions:

  1. We talked about how, “Sin thrives in secrecy, but the Lord moves through honesty.” How have you experienced this in your own life?
  2. Reflect on a time when you felt like you were in the wrong “assignment.” How did you handle it? Looking back, can you see any purpose in that situation?
  3. We emphasized trusting the “assigner” (God) even when we don’t love the assignment. Why is this challenging? How can we grow in this area?
  4. How might changing your posture (attitude) in your current situation change your experience or effectiveness?
  5. We gave examples of how God uses current situations to prepare us for future seasons (e.g., long stretches without results to build endurance). Can you identify any areas in your life where this might be happening?
  6. Discuss the statement: “Your posture determines your profit.” How have you seen this play out in your own life or the lives of others?

Practical Applications:

  1. This week, identify one area of your life where you’ve been resistant to your “assignment.” Commit to praying daily for a change in posture rather than position.
  2. Write down three ways you can demonstrate a more positive attitude in a challenging area of your life (work, relationships, ministry, etc.).
  3. Reflect on past difficult seasons. Journal about how those experiences prepared you for where you are now.
  4. Practice gratitude by listing five ways God has used seemingly negative situations for good in your life.
  5. If you’re struggling with your current “assignment,” share with the group and ask for prayer and accountability in maintaining a godly posture.
  6. Look for opportunities this week to encourage others who might be struggling with their current situations, reminding them of God’s purposeful assignments.

A short bio goes here. And, yes, I mean short. This doesn't need to be a novel. Think of it as your 30 second elevator pitch, but instead of being IRL — it's on the internet at the bottom of your website.
