One of our focuses as a staff is investing in leaders like you and helping coach your leadership in whatever ways we can. We want you to be the best version of yourself, helping lead others into a deeper relationship with Jesus through your shared interests and desire to grow.
Below, you’ll find 3 tips to help you grow as a leader. These reminders are to help you keep your eyes on what matters, getting out of the way so Jesus can work in the lives of your Group members. Take the time to think through your leadership style and ask yourself: Am I truly doing all that I can in all of these areas?
Consistency is one of the most important steps in developing a trusting relationship with your Group members. This will allow you to set your own routine whether it be time management, prepping the content, or planning an intentional flow for your Group. Your members will trust your leadership because you are focused on building consistency by the way you plan, lead, and care for your Group.
To make a difference in the lives of those you lead, you will need to be authentic in the ways you communicate and build relationships with Group members. This can happen through conversations, actions, and vulnerability. A leader should seek to genuinely connect with Group members and facilitate conversations that center around what the Bible says about who we are and who Jesus is. Authenticity will help break down walls that Group members might have up because of their personal testimonies and histories. Each of us is a work in progress and by bringing that vulnerability, it will show that you are working through things as well. Also, by being vulnerable, you are leading others in what it looks like to open up and share what they are going through in their own lives. Remember, we are all broken and fall short of the Glory of God. So, get real and be honest about where you have been and where you are going… You never know who may need to hear it.
Your Group will take time to grow and connect (even over a shared interest). If you are experiencing this feeling, you are not alone. Be determined to grow your Group by being consistent and authentic in everything you do. This is the foundation for what it takes to bring the vision for your Group to life! When you are intentional in inviting others, praying for others, and serving others they will feel your contagious energy and want to join you.
Remember, your shared interests are the first steps in bringing you together; your mission and purpose are what will keep it going and growing. Find ways to serve and be a blessing to your community together by using what you love as a way to exist For Those Not Yet Here. Pay attention to your Group and the trajectory you are on. There could be times you need to reassess the style of Group you’re leading, the physical location, or even the people you are trying to connect with.
Community building is difficult, but if you stay focused on people, purpose, and mission, you can let God focus on the rest. Everyone is at different points in their leadership, so if you have any questions or need any help, check out more resources or reach out and we are happy to help!
